The name
Rottweiler may sound right out of a horror movie but the truth is that he is
more than just a dog, he’s a loyal companion. Three words describe a Rottweiler
better than anything else: Powerful, muscular, and athletic. With a Rottweiler
in your house, you can stop worrying about trespassers. Most breeders classify
these dogs under two main breeds, the German Rottweiler and the American
Rottweiler. The German Rotties are shorter and stockier than their American
counterparts. But most dog experts would want to disagree to such minimal
differences and for a dog lover; a Rottweiler will always be a
Rottweiler.
They are extremely intelligent
dogs and are often seen at various crime scenes, as police dogs, army bomb
squads, drug sniffers, and many more. He plays a multi-role when it comes to
playing his part. In fact, the truth is that they have played the important role
of tracking since the days of the Roman Empire. He’s born to be a guard dog.
There is one small word of caution that any breeder would want you to know: They
are susceptible to becoming vicious if the environment is stressful.
When talking about the Rottie temperament, most
breeders will vouch at his ability to be calm. He is known as the guardian angel
of children and once in a while you can catch that motherly or fatherly spark in
their eyes. Very soft and if trained properly, they are one of the most obedient
dogs and can even go to the extent of laying his life for you and isn’t that
what loyalty and courage is all about. It will not think twice if you are in
trouble. He will always be your shield. In spite of their size and muscular
body, they are lovable and can quickly become an integral part of the
family.
The Rottweiler belongs to the Mastiff breed and many
dog breeders would say that they probably descended from the Italian Mastiff.
According to some studies and research, it has been quoted as being used as a
herd dog. The origin of the Rottie can be traced back to the German town of
Rottweil in Wurttemberg. This breed reached near extinction in the 1800's, but
due to the undying efforts of some breeders in Stuttgart; the Rottweiler was
given a new life.
If you have your eyes on this amazingly powerful and
loving dog, then make it a point to buy from only an authorized breeder or
kennel. Only a breeder or kennel associated with organizations like AKC and UKC
will be able to provide you with an original breed. The Rottweiler is recognized
by most of the kennel associations like CKC, FCI, AKC, UKC, KCGB, CKC, ANKC,
NKC, NZKC, APRI, and ACR.
The Rottweiler male and female growth is different
like in humans. The male rottie can grow in height from 24 to 27 inches or 61 to
69 cm. He will weigh somewhere between 95 to 130 pounds or 43 to 59 kg. The
bitch or the female rottie on the other hand will have a height of 22 to 25
inches or 56 to 63 cm with body weight would be between 85 and 115 pounds or
38-52 kg.
